Raw-some North Countyites rejoiced when restaurateur Matt Rimel opened a Cardiff-by-the-Sea outpost of Zenbu, his La Jolla sushi hotspot which is known as much for its hip, clubby vibe as for its inventive menu and ultra-fresh fish. Rimel’s own fleet of fishing boats brings in the daily catch, while talented sushi chefs showcase the product in creations like the Wind-N-Sea Roll, with eel, avocado and tempura’d banana. Other favorites include steak served sizzling on a hot volcanic rock.
